Amateur Sport Organization Scholarships
Years of hard work go into making an Olympic champion, the pinnacle of amateur sports. Throughout the United States, scholarship support from amateur sport organizations enables young people to participate in a variety of athletics. Ideally, they discover one that takes them to the top of their game. Scholarship sponsorship is available at the national, state, regional and local levels.

North Carolina Amateur Sports

North Carolina Amateur Sports is a nonprofit that hosted the first sanctioned State Games of North Carolina in 1986 and the U.S. Olympic Festival-’87. Fifty percent of festival proceeds went to the United States Olympic Committee, and the balance created a permanent endowment to support the state’s amateur athletics through awards to individuals and organizations. The NCAS Endowment Fund offers educational scholarships to students who participate in the Powerade State Games, and who have a proven track record of excellence in their sport, academically and in community service. Applicants must be enrolled in or have plans to enroll in a college or university, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Only high school seniors and college students receive consideration for these awards. Applications must include two letters of recommendation, high school or college transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. The scholarship value is undisclosed.
Thunderbird Community Sports Foundation

In Kent, Washington, the nonprofit Thunderbird Community Sports Foundation offers awards that enable amateur athletes in the Puget Sound region to take part in individual and team sports competitions. The move of the Seattle Thunderbirds Hockey Club to Kent paved the way for the establishment of the foundation. The foundation and club are partners in fundraising for amateur and youth sports organizations, promoting good health, physical education and academic excellence. As of 2011, award values ranged between $250 and $5,000, available to individual, team, school, and amateur sports association applicants.

Eastern Surfing Association

As its name suggests, the Eastern Surfing Association's Marsh Scholarship Fund promotes amateur surfing on the U.S. East Coast. The association offers a program of competitive events for surfers of all ages and levels of skill. Competition starts at the district level, proceeding to regional level and then on to the championships at Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. Applicants for the Marsh scholarship must be ESA members in good standing. Applications must include an official school transcript, letter of recommendation, and a 500-word-or-fewer letter describing the applicant’s choice of college and how this fulfills goals. As of 2011, scholarship values ranged from $500 to $1,000.
National Field Archery Association

The nonprofit National Field Archery Association comprises chartered state associations and affiliated clubs dedicated to archery in accordance with its “ancient and honorable traditions.” The association represents a wide range of archery styles and hosts three national championship tournaments. Sponsorship support for the NFAA scholarship comes from The Easton Foundations, a nonprofit that assists the development of archery programs in communities and schools with a long-range goal of inspiring Olympic competitors. Scholarship applications must include details of GPA, school transcripts, archery club and competition experience. The value of the scholarship is undisclosed.
