A significant difference exists between the effective range at which you can shoot with a longbow and a shortbow. If you have a longbow and a shortbow composed of the same material, you'll find that the longbow has a greater maximum range than the shortbow. The maximum range that you can shoot also varies based on the material the bow is constructed from.

The disadvantage to using a shortbow is its relative lack of maximum shooting distance. On the other hand, the shortbow version of a given bow type can shoot at a faster rate than the corresponding longbow.
