Black and White Masquerade Ball Ideas
When it comes to planning a masquerade ball, the details are essential to creating a successful, impressive event. For a classic, air-of-mystery theme, a black and white theme is ideal and makes decorating a lot simpler as your color scheme is quite limited. In addition, with guests dressing in black and white and hiding their faces with masquerade masks, it makes it harder to figure out who is who, adding more excitement to an entertaining evening. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations
-
Black and white invitations are among the easiest to make, simply by using black or white card stock and have the lettering printed in the opposite color. Spice it up by making half of the invitation black and half white and include a graphic of a mask, or make the invitation in the shape of a mask. Add a splash of color by tying the invitations with a red silk bow. The invitation should include all of the pertinent information such as the date, location and time, as well as details on what to wear. Since it is a ball, asks your guests to come in black or white ball gowns for the women and tuxedos for the men. You can also have a more casual ball and ask your guests to wear semi-formal to formal wear, as long as it is black or white.
Decor
-
Choose a venue that has pure white walls for the best look to your party. Install a checkered black and white dance floor in the center of the room. Fill the ceiling with black and white balloons. For the tables, use black table cloths and all white plates and napkins. Likewise, if you're going to do the more traditional white table cloths, contrast them with black plates and napkins. For the centerpieces, place a white or black vase (the opposite color of the table cloth) with white and black silk roses, or real red roses for a splash of color. Sit a black or white masquerade mask at the base of the vase. For some shimmer, sprinkle the tables with silver confetti.

Food
-
Although it will be difficult to prepare a full meal with only black and white foods, you can include foods that have white or black in the name or elements of those colors. For example, you could serve blackened fish or chicken, white and black bean soup, pasta in a white cream sauce, mussels and white mashed potatoes. Place tall glass salt and pepper shakers on the table to add to the decor.
Desserts
-
Create an impressive dessert table full of black and white sweet treats. Start with a towering white chocolate fountain as the centerpiece. Place black and white cookies elegantly on a silver platter, along with a vanilla bean cheesecake with a dark cookie crust. Serve chocolate cupcakes with a white mask sugar decoration. Many candies covered in dark chocolate are nearly black in color, such as dark chocolate bars and chocolate-covered raisins. White chocolate-dipped pretzels and strawberries as well as powdered donuts are all ideal for the black and white dessert table.
Party Favors
-
Send guests home with black and white memories of the night, such as a white candle in a black votive holder, black key chain with the details of the event and a small black picture frame. You can also place both black and white chocolate-coated candies in a white mesh tote or in a box to give to guests. An even more elegant party favor would be a miniature glass masquerade mask, a keepsake to remember the special evening.
