50th Anniversary & Honoring Ideas
A couple's 50th anniversary is a momentous occasion. It celebrates five decades of love, and all the hard work it took to cultivate a successful relationship that could withstand the test of time. You may decide to honor the special couple with a formal affair to celebrate their golden anniversary, with all their family and friends present to share in their joy. The ideas are as varied as the individuals themselves, but ideally focus on their shared accomplishment as a married couple.

The Golden Year
-
Traditionally the 50th anniversary is the golden anniversary. Use gold accents for more elegant decorations, such as linens, plates or glasses. A gold guest book will give the couple a fond way to remember the event. Invest either individually or as a group for gifts of gold to honor the couple. Anniversary plates come either fully in gold or with gold trim, but run a little pricey and are possibly best suited as gifts from a group, such as the children or grandchildren.
Make It Formal
-
Because of the sheer accomplishment of the anniversary, you may elect to honor the couple with a more formal event. Host a banquet in their honor and invite all those who were there during the couple's journey toward Year 50. A formal sit-down dinner allows family and friends to deliver speeches that let the couple know how much they mean to special people in their lives. It also makes a grand way for children to honor their parents on their special day.

Make It Personal
-
Gifts take on a special meaning when personalized for the event. Engrave those golden plates with the names of children and grandchildren that resulted from the union, or engrave golden frames with a new picture of the happy couple. Grandchildren may choose to have blankets woven with sweet sentiments from the younger members of the family, or you could engrave champagne flutes, music boxes or even gold jewelry.
Marry Past and Present
-
Honor their 50-year journey by reminding them of milestones along the way. If possible, hold your soiree at the same venue as their wedding reception. Use plenty of wedding photos to compare the couple as they are now, such as a double-photo frame. Create a slide show featuring the couple's life together, using their special song as part of the soundtrack. Recreate the wedding invitations for your party, or even recreate the wedding cake.
