The SGH-A177 and Impression are mobile smartphones developed by Samsung. The company released both phones in 2009. Both phones feature built-in digital cameras, multimedia players and Bluetooth support. Though they're similar in terms of design, the Impression is more advanced all around. Samsung has since discontinued both devices.

The Impression is slightly larger and heavier, measuring 2.28 inches wide, 4.48 inches tall and 0.61 inches thick at its thickest point. It weighs 5.3 oz. before optional upgrades and accessories. A rechargeable 800-mAh lithium-ion battery provides onboard power to the SGH-A177, supplying it with up to 240 hours of standby time per charge. A rechargeable 1,000-mAh lithium-ion battery supplies the Impression with up to 250 hours of standby time per charge.

Samsung outfits the SGH-A177 with a 2.2-inch TFT active matrix screen that displays up to 65,536 colors and has a resolution of 220 by 176 pixels. The Samsung Impression features a 3.2-inch AMOLED resistive touch screen with a native resolution of 240 by 400 pixels. The Impression’s screen displays up to 262,144 colors and features light and proximity sensors. Both phones feature integrated digital cameras. The SGH-A177’s camera is rear-facing and has a 0.3-megapixel sensor. The Impression’s camera is rear-facing as well and features a 3-megapixel sensor, digital zoom, geotagging and video-recording capabilities.

Both phones run on 2G cellular networks at 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz. The Impression also runs on 3G cellular networks at 850 and 1,900 MHz. When transferring data, the SGH-A177 uses EDGE technology. The Impression uses EDGE technology as well when running on 2G networks, but it can also run on HSDPA technology when on 3G networks, allowing it to transfer data at up to 3.6 megabits per second. The SGH-A177 and Impression both have support for Bluetooth version 2.0. The Impression has GPS capabilities as well.

Samsung outfitted the SGH-A177 with 64MB of onboard storage space. The phone doesn't have a memory card slot for storage expansion. Samsung equipped the Impression with both 189MB of storage space and a memory card expansion slot compatible with microSD and microSDHC memory cards. The SGH-A177 has a miniaturized QWERTY keyboard located below its display screen on the phone's front panel. The Impression’s QWERTY keyboard slides out from beneath its screen. The Impression has an accelerometer, while the SGH-A177 doesn’t. Both phones connect to computers via USB cables.
