What Do You Put at the Sign-in Table at a Wedding Reception?

Sign-in tables can have more than a book and a pen.

The wedding guest book often has a table of its own near the entrance of the reception venue. Though some couples are content to leave the table as free from adornment as possible, others feel that the table deserves a bit of dressing up, too. Ensure that your sign-in table is in harmony with the rest of your decorations at your reception for a lasting impression.

  1. Guest Book and Pen

    • The guest book acts as a detailed account of your guests as well as a treasured keepsake. Therefore, after you write your thank you notes to all the people who came, you can read through the congratulatory messages for years to come. Give your guests a fancy pen so that they can sign their names and congratulations with a flourish. Provide a spare pen, though, as some inkwells will not stand the test of hundreds of signatures.

    Photos

    • Including photos from several stages of your relationship brings back memories of your time together, and it will help your guests feel a bit more involved in your wedding day. Frame photos from the beginning of your relationship up to your wedding day. Additionally, add photos from your engagement for a sweet finish. For a traditional approach, set up photos of your parents and grandparents on their wedding days as well.

    Centerpiece

    • Because the entryway is the first taste that your guests have of the wedding venue, it is often fun to dress up the table to match the rest of the decorations. It can even give a hint of the evening's theme, such as vintage-inspired, masquerade or winter wonderland. Consider using a floral centerpiece similar to the ones on the dinner tables, or try stacked hat boxes, candelabra or a collection of icicle ornaments to leave a lasting impression.

    Seating Chart

    • After the guests sign in at the reception, they will want to know where they sit. Help them in their endeavor by placing the seating chart above or next to the sign-in table so it is easy to see. If you cannot hang it on the wall, request an easel from the venue's manager. The seating chart should be arranged by table number and inform guests as to their specified arrangement.
