Homemade Candle Bag Decorations
Candle bags add an elegant and inviting touch to evening and nighttime events. Candle bags emit a soft glow given off by a lit votive candle inside. These beautiful and functional bags can be used to light walkways, decorate tabletops and even to welcome trick-or-treaters. Add handmade decorations to candle bags for charming custom lighting and ambiance.

Candle Bag Construction
-
With a few quick adjustments, you can transform any lunch-sized paper bag into a candle bag. Leave the bag its original size for a tall luminary, or cut it in half to make a short candle bag. Add a small scoop of some kind of filler, such as sand, gravel or kitty litter to the bottom of the bag as a weight. Place a tea light or votive candle in the bottom center of the bag.

Make small handmade tags to adorn the outside of the bag. Use craft punches or a paper cutting machine to cut decorative scrapbook paper into uniform tags. For special occasions, print the date, an appropriate message or an image that coordinates with the occasion onto the tag. Attach the tag to the bag by lacing it with a ribbon and tying the ribbon loosely around the outside of the bag. Place a dot of scrapbook adhesive on the back of the tag to keep it from slipping down the bag.

Hole Punching
-
Use a long-handled hole punch to punch a custom design into the walls of the paper bag. Hole punching can be time consuming, so this method of decorating is practical only when decorating a few bags. Alternatively, you can purchase candle bags with pre-punched designs from party stores.
Stamping
-
When trying to decorate many candle bags in a uniform style, use a rubber stamp to easily create a consistent pattern or image on the bags. Leave stamped images as they are or fill them in with markers or paint. Use stamps that coordinate with the event type and theme. For instance, use a monogram stamp for an engagement party or a Christmas tree stamp for a Christmas party.
