Frigidaire Front Load Washing Machine Is Leaking From the Bottom

Christie Gross

It’s never good when you discover that your Frigidaire front-load washing machine is leaking. If you find water dripping from the bottom of the washer, the leak could be coming from one of a handful of components.

Depending on which component is leaking, you may be facing anything from a minor part replacement to having to buy a new washing machine. Try to pinpoint the source of the leak before you contact a washer service technician.

Water Pump

Near your Frigidaire front-load washer’s drain is a water pump, which pumps water out of the washtub. If the pump stops working, it will drip water that can end up at the bottom of the washing machine’s cabinet. Additionally, if the pump fails, you’ll also find water in the washtub after a cycle finishes. Contact a washer service technician to change the faulty pump.

Washtub Seals

Around the outer edge of a washtub are four plastic or rubber seals. Aside from reinforcing the washtub, the seals act as a barrier to keep water inside the tub. A bolt attaches to the seal and holds it in place. Over time, however, the bolt can wear a hole in the seal and cause water to leak down the sides of the washtub into the cabinet’s bottom. Contact a washer service technician to change out the damaged seal, or purchase a tub seal kit from a retailer that sells Frigidaire front-load washing machine parts and supplies to replace the seal yourself.

Water Valve

A leaky water valve will release water into the washtub even if your Frigidaire front-loading washer is off. A water valve is frequently made of metal, which can rust and corrode over time. If this happens, the valve may stick and not close all the way. Close the water inlet valves at the back of the washer to stop the washer’s valve temporarily from leaking until you can have the broken valve replaced.

Washtub

A Frigidaire front-load washtub can spring a leak from a crack or hole that causes water to appear below the washing machine. Once a breach occurs, water can leak into the bottom of a cabinet periodically throughout a routine wash cycle. If a washing machine’s washtub is unable to hold water, it needs to be replaced. Replacing a washtub can be quite costly, however. Based on the age of your washing machine, you might consider upgrading to a new washer rather than replacing a defective washtub.
