Decorating Ideas for Hotel Lobbies
Nobody wants to stay at a hotel with a lobby consisting of two folding chairs and a card table. A hotel’s lobby is the first thing guests will see. Make sure your lobby is appealing and stylish. To create a beautiful space for your guests, start by developing a theme. Once your theme is determined, all the other aspects of decoration will fall into place. Don’t fall for the latest fad. Fads come and go within a couple years. Choose an enduring style that will still attract clients 10 years from now. Remember to keep in mind your guests’ needs when designing a hotel lobby.

Furniture
-
Offer clients a beautiful lobby space filled with comfortable, stylish furniture, perhaps modern or from a certain era. Many hotel lobbies offer a stylish workspace for their clients, including a small writing table and chair. Coordinate lobby furniture with the overall theme of your decor. Provide an appealing couch and coordinating armchairs that are easy to sit in and rise from. If you have enough space, include end tables and even a coffee table. Select sturdy, high quality furniture that will endure the daily wear and tear.
Flowers/Plants
-
Plants and flowers can add life to your new lobby space. Decide whether you are going to incorporate live plants or plastic ones. Living plants are beautiful, but they require regular maintenance and some clients may be allergic to certain plants. Live or artificial trees can be placed in the corners of the lobby, or even behind couches. But don’t overuse trees. Clients want to sit in a quiet, peaceful place, not a jungle. Floral arrangements can frame paintings on the wall, or they can be placed on coffee or end tables.

Lighting
-
Lighting is of utmost importance. Dramatic lighting will highlight particular areas of a lobby. Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows can add elegance to the room. Floor lamps can be placed near the couches where clients may sit and work on their laptops. Chandeliers come in many different styles and designs, from modern to historical. Choose one that coordinates with your basic theme. Remember to use lighting to create an inviting space, but don’t overdo it.
Color Schemes
-
Choose your color scheme carefully. It will need to be carried throughout the entire decorating process. Select colors that coordinate with your theme. Every theme lends itself to one, or perhaps two base colors. For example, a deep red could be paired with beige. Add black accents to the deep red and beige throughout the room, and you have created an elegant space. Pay attention to the details. Do not add accent colors that clash with your base color scheme. Use color swatches, or a color wheel if you are unsure. Solid colors and fabrics have a sleek, chic look. Keep patterns under control.
