Interview Questions for a School Math Administrator
A school math administrator’s tasks range from developing math curriculum to disciplining students. In the math department, the administrator may hire and train teachers and conduct student affairs. Math administrators can be in a school, college or university. An interviewer for the position of a school math administrator seeks a candidate who shows responsibility toward the education of young people and who is dedicated to understanding and developing programs for students' needs in the math department.

Principles
-
An interviewer may be interested in your education principles and may ask about your approach or your philosophy on teaching. A response highlighting the following three points could satisfy the answer. First, you could discuss your belief in lifelong learning and being able to set an example to students. Next, you may choose to discuss your availability to students, particularly those who find math challenging. The third point may be your approach for students to enjoy learning.
Awareness
-
Your response to the interviewer's question of why you want to be a math administrator with the school you have applied for can give the interviewer a sense of your awareness of the current program. You could respond with aspects of the math curriculum, reputation of the school, and its staff as your reasons why it would be a privilege to be part of this team. The more research you do on the details of the school and math program, the more clearly you will be able to provide relevant details in your response.

Professional Development
-
Learning and development changes for teachers and administrators as it does for students. With this in mind, an interviewer may ask a question related to your professional development activities. Your professional development can come from community partnerships and colleagues in addition to extracurricular courses. Your continued development should demonstrate what you have learned and how it can be applied to function effectively in your role as a math administrator.
Strengths
-
If you are asked about your strengths, respond by focusing on leadership, management and communication. As a leader you show that you have a clear direction for the math department for both staff and students. State examples of implementing processes, procedures and policies. The manner in which you communicate is a reflection on yourself, so answer clearly.
