Kids' Activities Near Evansville, IN
Evansville, Indiana, is on the Ohio River and offers activities for children all year. During the spring and summer, Evansville offers warm temperatures for boating on the river. Fall marks the arrival of Ole' Cider Days, a festival letting kids sample ciders at Trunnell's Farmers Market in Owensboro, Kentucky, less than 20 minutes from Evansville. In the winter, Evansville hosts “Peppermint Pops -- Christmas Through the Eyes of Children,” a joint performance between the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Evansville Children's Choir.

The largest urban park in Evansville, Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, hosts youth programs such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and summer day camps. The nature preserve offers guided tours on the park's hiking trails and chances for animal encounters in the forest. Summer camps occur in June and July, while Scouts have year-round access to the park. Mesker Park Zoo and Botanical Gardens also provide eight-week summer camp sessions. At these camps, the zoo offers activities like hiking, arts and crafts, turtle races and, for older kids, lessons on how to train animals with the assistance of zookeepers.

The Koch Family Children's Museum in downtown Evansville provides interactive exhibits for children: “Work Smart” focuses on developing engineering skills, and “Live Big” explores the human anatomy. Koch Museum hosts school field trips for groups of at least 10, allowing children to participate in workshops and visit the exhibits. The museum also facilitates birthday parties for children. Also downtown is the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science. The museum provides summer and weekend classes, including puppetry, microbiology and teen art workshops.

Among Evansville's amusement parks are Walther's Golf and Fun and AdventureLand Golf. Both Walther's and AdventureLand have two 18-hole miniature golf courses. Walther's also features the Huge Lazer Tag Arena, accommodating games of 25 participants, and the Impressive Arcade, an arcade room with approximately 50 video or ticket games. AdventureLand is open from March to December; Walther's indoor golf course is open year-round. During the summer, Evansville's Burdette Park offers kids access to its aquatic center, featuring a spray park, outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool and large water slide.
