Homemade Windchime
Wind chimes are a decorative arrangement of small pieces of glass, metal, shells or other materials suspended from a frame, typically hung near a door, a window or outdoors to make a tinkling sound in the breeze. Often used in gardens, backyards, porch areas, solariums and breezeways, wind chimes serve as decorative elements and are also regarded as stress reducers because of their relaxing sound. Some cultures believe that chimes bring good luck or ward off evil. The sound of chimes can also scare away some species of unwanted birds from gardens or vegetation. Homemade wind chimes offer an inexpensive way to create unique chimes using favorite items, such as seashells, or articles found around your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Glass Bottles
-
Use bottles in various shapes and colors to create a unique homemade wind chime. A glass bottle wind chime emits a soft tinkling sound that's particularly pleasing to the ear. Unlike other chimes that can sound loud and discordant, such as those containing metal pieces, a glass chime produces a light noise that's not obvious or intrusive. To make a homemade glass wind chime, gather bottles of various shapes, sizes and colors, including soda and beer bottles, perfume bottles, or other small mouthed jars. String the bottles together and hang them from a sturdy object, such as a thick wooden dowel, metal pipe or decorative hook. A unique decorative display, a glass bottle wind chime produces varying levels of sound when the bottles are filled with different levels of water.
Seaside Style
-
Construct a seaside chime from shells and driftwood. Enjoy the beauty of the seashore with homemade wind chimes that showcase favorite items found in the water or along the shore. Use shells of various shapes and sizes, either store-bought or collected from the shore, to create a chime that evokes memories of the ocean or the casual feel of a summer cottage. You can also construct a seaside wind chime out of found sea glass. To hang your chime, use a piece of driftwood to complete the look.
