Can You See Wall Posts You Deleted on Facebook?

Like many Facebook users, most of the pictures, messages and links you share with friends probably appear ion your wall first. Sometimes however, you may wish to delete a Facebook wall post because it is inappropriate or erroneous or you do not want it to appear any longer on your wall. Deleted posts are no longer accessible, so be careful about which posts you remove.

  1. Description

    • Facebook wall posts remain on your wall indefinitely once they are published. As a user, you can delete posts and comments on your wall whenever you want. You may want to delete posts that you no longer wish to share, unwanted comments by other users or old stories that go back months or years in the past. Deleted items will no longer be accessible through your wall. However, your friends may have seen them already in their news feeds. Deleting a post does not stop a related story from streaming into your friends' feeds.

    Deletion

    • To delete a post or comment on Facebook, scroll down the list of wall stories and locate the item you want to delete. Click the blue "x" in its upper right corner, click "Remove..." and then click the confirmation button. Deleted wall posts and comments are gone forever. They do not go to a trash folder or recycle bin from where you could recover them should you change your mind. Before you confirm a deletion, make sure you no longer want the message.

    Tips

    • Sometimes you may change your mind about a deleted post and wish to republish it. To make this easier, save a copy of your post content on the computer. This will save you trouble with longer posts, comments or photos. Select the text, right-click and click "Copy" to copy a post's text content to the clipboard. Save the content to a text file. This will not copy pictures or emoticons. Make sure you have backup copies of all pictures you delete from your wall.

    Privacy Options

    • You can control the visibility of each of your wall posts. Before you publish a post, click the privacy button next to the blue "Share" button. The privacy button is shown with a lock icon. You can make a post visible only to friends, to your friends, or to specific users. To make a post completely private, click "Customize" and select "Only Me" in the list of choices. Customizing your privacy this way lets you keep certain posts to yourself without having to delete them. This is useful when you want to test certain effects such as symbols and emoticons in a post.
