The Canon iP90 Vs. the iP90v

The Pixma iP90 and Pixma iP90v are both wireless portable color ink-jet printers developed by Canon. The company released the iP90 in 2005 and the iP90v in 2007. Both printers feature wireless and wired printing capabilities, 4-by-6 photo-quality print functionality and PictBridge support. In general, the iP90v represents a minor refresh over the iP90. The specifications for the two devices are nearly identical. Canon no longer manufactures either printer.

When set to produce 4-by-6 photo-quality prints, the iP90 prints at speeds up to 0.6 pages per minute, while the iP90v is more than twice as fast, printing at up to 1.4 pages per minute. Both devices print black and white documents at resolutions up to 600 by 600 dots per inch and color documents at resolutions up to 4,800 by 1,200 dots per inch.

    Media Handling

    • Both printers are compatible with a variety of different print media, including envelopes, photo paper and plain paper. Both printers have a maximum media capacity of 30 pages and are compatible with media as large as 8.5 by 14 inches and as small as 2.1 by 3.4 inches. The iP90 and iP90v can print high-quality photos up to 4 by 6 inches in size and envelopes up to 4.1 by 9.5 inches in size.

    • Canon sold the Pixma iP90 and iP90v printers bundled with one color and one black-and-white ink cartridge apiece. According to CNET, a technology review site, the bundled color ink cartridges lasted an average of 80 pages, while the black-and-white cartridges lasted an average of 100 pages. Both devices support borderless printing and are compatible with Canon's PictBridge technology. Canon sold both printers with one-year warranties.
