What Is TweetDeck on Twitter?
TweetDeck is a desktop, mobile and Web-based Twitter client. Although starting out as an independent operation, TweetDeck was bought by Twitter in 2011 and is now an official product. TweetDeck brings with it a range of features not found on the Twitter Web page, such as an improved interface for managing lists and the ability to integrate updates from other networks like Facebook into the Twitter timeline. The desktop client is available to download from the official TweetDeck website.

History
-
First released in 2008, TweetDeck initially focused on Twitter before adding support for other social networks and services, including Facebook, Google Buzz, MySpace, LinkedIn and Foursquare. TweetDeck's main emphasis has always been on Twitter, and in May 2011 the software was purchased by Twitter to become an official product. Updates about the TweetDeck software across all platforms can be found at the official Posterous blog at tweetdeck.posterous.com.
Key Features
-
The main feature of TweetDeck is the ability to create customized columns of tweets, based around particular lists, search terms or followers. These columns are updated in real time without the need for any interaction from you. The program also enables you to interact with many social networks; you can retweet Twitter tweets, like Facebook posts and preview photos, for example. It's also possible to schedule tweets for future publication, check in to Foursquare locations and filter out tweets based on user, hashtag or service.

Desktop, Mobile, Web
-
Through the course of its development, TweetDeck has released desktop applications for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. Mobile applications for iOS and Android are available, as well as a Web-based app that runs in the Chrome browser, with support for other browsers on the way, as of August 2011. All of these different apps have the same core features -- the ability to monitor Twitter feeds and other social networks through one interface and the option to create customized columns of updates based around specific users, accounts, search terms and more.
