What to Make With Seashells for Your Boyfriend
Creating a gift from seashells gathered during a romantic day at the beach preserves the moment, allowing both the giver and the recipient of the gift to remember that special day for years to come. There are numerous crafts that can be created using seashells, ranging from candles to wind chimes, but if you are crafting a gift for your boyfriend, you might want to create a gift that is more suited to masculine tastes.

Seashell Necklace
-
Use a drill with a thin bit to drill two holes in each shell, one at each end. Experiment with different patterns, taking into consideration shape, size and color. Bulky shells work best for masculine necklaces. Thread the shells onto a piece of cord, so that the cord goes through both holes and rests against the back of the shell. Tie a knot between each shell. Attach a clasp to the ends of the cord. If you are unsure about what size necklace to make, consider using elastic cord. Alternatively, create a bracelet instead of a necklace using the same method.
Seashell Picture Frame
-
Lay an unfinished wooden picture frame on a piece of newspaper. Paint the frame with a light coat of white glue. Sprinkle dry beach sand (or white craft sand) onto the glue and allow it to try. Seal the sand with a clear spray-on finish to prevent the granules from falling off. Arrange the shells on the frame, experimenting with different designs until you find a design you are satisfied with. Use craft glue to attach the shells to the picture frame. You can also add bits of driftwood or beach rocks if you like. Insert a picture of your and your boyfriend into the frame.

Seashell Treasure Chest
-
Select shells that are small and fairly flat. Arrange the shells on the side of a wooden box, taking into account the design on the box (if there is one). Once satisfied with your design, glue the shells to the side of the box. Work with one side of the box at a time. Seal your creation with a clear spray-on finish. Spray on the finish when the box is open to prevent sealing the box shut. Place a picture of you and your boyfriend, a love note or a special trinket into the treasure chest.
Beach in a Jar
-
Pour a cup or two of dry beach sand into a clear glass jar. Add shells, pieces of driftwood, beach rocks or other beach treasures to the jar. Shake the jar gently to settle the sand beneath the additions. Glue seashells to the lid of the jar. Allow the lid to dry, then attach it to the jar. Use a paint pen to write your name, your boyfriend's name, the name of the beach and a special date on the side of the jar. If you want your bottle to lie on its side rather than its bottom, you can purchase bottle stands at most craft stores.
Considerations
-
Know the rules of the beach you are gathering your shells from; if the beach is public property there may be laws or regulations regarding the gathering of seashells. Always wash your seashells with soap and water before using them in crafts. A good washing removes debris and brings out the natural color and shine of seashells.
