What Are Craigslist PVAs?
Craigslist provides an avenue for listing classifieds, resumes and conversational posts, as well as real estate sales, small business ads and personals. With the anonymity of the internet, personal safety and financial scams are a concern when you respond to or manage a Craigslist ad. With phone verified accounts, Craigslist aims to ensure the legitimacy of ads posted in some categories.

Explanation
-
Craigslist PVAs are phone-verified accounts. The site requires an active phone number to post a classified ad on the site. The phone number provides confirmation that you are a legitimate poster, and provides a phone number to connect to your account in the event of violations or complaints. Craigslist reports that accounts free of complaints, violations and reports may remove a phone number after 90 days.
Process
-
The categories that require phone verification vary by region, and Craigslist does not provide a list of the requirements. You are prompted for a verification the first time you post in one of these sections. Enter your phone number in the field provided then select your preferred contact method, by call or text. Choose your language then click the send button. Enter the code received by text or call on the next screen then choose the submit button.
-
Restrictions
-
If you enter the verification code incorrectly, you have four more opportunities, for a maximum of five attempts. If the call fails, you may request a second call, but the calls are limited to a minimum five-minute delay between, up to three calls per account in a 12-hour cycle. If you experience problems with a specific phone number, you may attempt up to three numbers every 12 hours.
Troubleshooting
-
Certain phone providers are not compatible with Craigslist's phone verification system, including Voice Over IP providers, toll-free numbers and any phone number not registered in the U.S. or Canada. You will receive an error if your phone number is already attached to a verified account. A single phone number cannot be registered to multiple accounts.
