How Loot Works in "RuneScape"

In the online role-playing game "RuneScape," you receive drops, or loot, each time you kill a monster. Generally, these drops contain a bone and a second item unique to the monster. Most monsters have "100 percent" drops, which are items the monster always drops at death. Although a monster has common, uncommon, rare and very rare drops, players kill the monster in hopes the monster drops a rare item, which can potentially make the player rich. Several factors weigh into whether a player receives a common or a rare drop.

  1. Loot

    • When a monster drops items upon death, only the player who killed the monster can see the monster's drop. A monster's drop can contain several items or no items at all. Generally, each monster has its own specific drops. Dragons drop dragon bones and dragonhide, Dagannoth Kings drop bones and Dagannoth hide and Cows drop bones, cowhide and raw beef. Occasionally, you will receive a rare or very rare drop from a monster that can include a worthless item or one highly desired by other players. If the item is unique to the monster, it can produce a profit; however, if another monster commonly drops the item, a rare drop might be worthless.

    Rare Drop Table

    • Occasionally, you will access the rare drop table when receiving loot from a monster. The rare drop table is a list of special items used by almost all monsters in Gielinor. Picture a roulette wheel. When you kill a monster, the wheel spins and your drop is determined by where the wheel stops. Common items are listed on the wheel several times and rare items are listed on the wheel once. One slot on the wheel contains the rare drop table, which signifies a second spin of a separate wheel. Wherever the rare drop table wheel lands determines which drop you will receive. The item you receive from the rare drop table can include one to 20,000 noted gems, seeds, runes, coins, herbs, ore and bolts. Wearing a ring of wealth increases your chances of accessing the rare drop table.

    LootShare

    • "LootShare" is a way a group of players can kill monsters and share the monster's drops. To enable "LootShare," you must be in a "LootShare" world, join a clan with another player and press the "LootShare" button. Each time you kill a monster, the game splits the drops and shares the loot with all the players in the clan. Although most drops are included when you LootShare, several items are eliminated, including ancient effigies, Tokkul, clue scrolls and champion scrolls. Although players consider charms as a valuable drop, "LootShare" considers a charm to have a value of one coin because the item is untradeable; therefore, charms do not play a significant part when LootSharing.

    Looting Other Items

    • Not only monsters provide players with loot. Players can also obtain drops from other items, including chests and implings. To loot a chest, you must pick the lock on a chest using the "Thieving" skill. Upon opening the chest, you will receive the loot that was locked in the chest. Implings are creatures found in the "Impetuous Impules" minigame. The game takes place in the "Puro-Puro" realm located in Zanaris. Implings resemble butterflies and fly around Puro-Puro. Using a butterfly net and an impling jar, you can catch an impling, obtain the loot and release the impling. Most items obtained while looting chests and implings are tradeable and can produce a profit.
