Parachute cord bracelets are also called survival bracelets or survival straps.

Paracord bracelets are more than just a craft project or a decorative piece of jewelry. These bracelets are made of military grade parachute cord woven into an attractive design that can be unraveled and used for numerous practical purposes in a survival situation. Paracord comes in a large variety of colors, making it easy to custom create a bracelet in school colors, military colors or any favorite color combination.

  1. Necessary Materials

    • The paracord used in making paracord bracelets is usually military grade 550 paracord. This grade of paracord can support 550 lbs. You must also select a clasp type for the bracelet. For bracelets being created purely as a fun craft, a plastic side release buckle is a functional and inexpensive choice. However, an adjustable stainless steel shackle can be used in place of the plastic buckle and can be a useful tool in a survival situation.

    Optional Materials

    • Additional survival materials can be woven into the paracord bracelet, such as a whistle, a 10-inch segment of silicone tubing and several rounds of brass ammo. The whistle can be used to signal for help, the silicone tubing can be used for reaching into crevices for water and the ammo can be used in combination with the paracord to create a slingshot.

    Weaving Variances

    • Paracord bracelets can vary in width, weight, color and knot choices. Depending on the weaving pattern followed, the bracelet can vary from 3/4 inch wide to 1 3/8 inch wide. For a lightweight and narrow version of a paracord bracelet, remove the inner strands of the paracord and use only the paracord sheath when weaving the bracelet. This will result in a narrow 1/2-inch wide bracelet, but it also reduces the breaking strength of the paracord to 200 lbs.

    Functional Uses

    • You don't have to be an outdoor enthusiast to encounter a situation where you will find a paracord bracelet useful. In addition to using an unwoven bracelet for fishing, securing shelter or snaring game, an unwoven bracelet can be practical in everyday situations. Use the cord to replace a popped shoelace or to tie luggage down to a vehicle. Any situation that requires a strong rope or string is a situation in which a paracord bracelet can be used.
