Different types of sheeting are used in creating a roof.

Sheeting and trimming are materials that are used when building or remodeling homes. Sheeting is typically used on a home's roof, while trimming is used indoors along the top or bottom of a wall. Sheeting has more practical applications, while trimming is often used for decoration and style. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Zincalume Sheeting

    • Zincalume is a more modern development in roof sheeting, and it has all but replaced the old galvanized iron sheeting. It has a coating made up of zinc, aluminum and silicone, which is where the name Zincalume comes from. Zincalume begins as a bright and shining sheet, but over time the weather will wear down its appearance. Zincalume should be allowed to weather before a person paints this sheeting, because the paint will be affected in the same way if it is applied immediately.

    Galvanized Sheeting

    • Galvanized steel sheeting is still available; however, it is not often used on new home building projects. Galvanized steel sheeting is usually considered a specialized order, and is usually only used on historic restoration projects where galvanized steel roof sheeting is needed in order to complete the look. Galvanized steel roof sheeting is very thick, which makes it expensive to create as well as transport.

    Ceiling Trimming

    • Ceiling trimming is often used to add style and decor to a home. It completes the look of a room, while allowing some room for a creative design as well. There are several types of ceiling trim, often called molding, available. Cornice molding is a simple molding design that will trim out a room in an efficient manner. Crown molding is a decorative design that is well known and quite popular. Chair-rail molding is another type of decorative ceiling trim that a homeowner might choose to use in his home as well.

    Baseboard Trimming

    • Baseboard trimming is molding that goes around the base of a room, to set the carpet off from the walls. This is another interior design technique that completes the look of the room. Types of baseboard trimming include a basic baseboard molding that is mostly flat and lines the bottom of the wall. Wainscoting is also considered baseboard trimming, though it is a trim that takes up almost the entire bottom half of the wall. This is a neat decorating tool that sets a room apart from others, and often works well in dining rooms and bedrooms.
