Thumbprint Reindeer Crafts
Around the holidays money can be tight, prompting the use of homemade gift giving. Using popular Christmas icons, especially reindeer, to decorate gifts are easy ways to get the creativity juices flowing. Using just their thumbs, kids can easily make reindeer crafts to adorn homemade gifts.
-
Design a Gift Tag
-
Cut out squares and rectangles of various sizes from cardstock. Punch a hole on one side of each tag. Dip a thumb in brown paint and press onto the gift tags. Once the paint has dried, add facial features such as a red bead for a nose, googly eyes and pipe cleaner antlers. Attach to a gift with a ribbon.
Make an Ornament
-
Cut out different shapes, such as a circle or star, from cardstock. Punch a hole in the top of each shape and loop a string through the hole. Dip your thumb into brown paint and press onto the middle of the ornament. Draw eyes, a nose and antlers using different-colored markers after the paint dries to make a reindeer face. Use glue to outline the edges of the ornament, then sprinkle glitter over the glue.

Christmas Cookies
-
Wash hands with warm and soapy water. Roll out pre-packaged sugar cookie dough on a clean surface. Press your thumb into the dough and cut around the imprint using a butter knife. Decorate the cookies to look like reindeer: chocolate chips for the eyes, an M&M for a nose and pretzels for antlers. Bake cookies as directed.
Design a Shirt
-
Dip your whole hand into colored paint. Press the painted hand onto a shirt and hold for 15 seconds. Carefully lift your hand from the shirt. Add thumbprints around the hand print by dipping your thumb in paint. There should be five reindeer from your hand and more from the thumbprints. Add googly eyes, a pom pom nose and drawn-on antlers after the paint has dried.
