The Best ROM Station Emulator Settings
Gamers must configure Sony PlayStation computer emulators with the best possible settings for the PlayStation games to run fast enough to play. Emulators are powered by plugins that take the place of the hardware they are emulating. PlayStation emulators consist of three plugins -- the video plugin for controlling the graphics, the CD-ROM plugin for controlling the emulator's access to the game disk and the game pad plugin to set the controller inputs.

Installing the PlayStation Emulator

EPSXe is a free program that can be downloaded from the developer's website and many other places on the Internet. EPSXe is rated the best PlayStation emulator that is out and is the only PSX emulator that is still being developed. The program is legal as you still need to purchase your PlayStation games to be played on the emulator. EPSXe is also a portable application. This means you can download it directly to your computer desktop, a USB flash drive or any other type of storage and play it directly from there with no need to install it.
Configuring the Video
-
The biggest hurdle that many ePSXe users have is getting the graphics to look as crisp on their computers as they do using the PlayStation hardware. While ePSXe does come with pre configured plugins, there are a few options that can improve video quality. In the ePSXe video configuration menu, there are two options that can speed up the video quality. These are the "MDEC Filter" and the "Special Game Fixes" options. The "MDEC Filter" can simply be enabled, but the "Special Game Fixes" should have the "0x0002" option selected in its sub-menu. You can access this menu by clicking the "..." button next to the "Special Game Fixes" option.

CD-ROM Settings
-
When you insert a computer game, an Autorun window comes up and asks you if you want to play that game. When you insert a PlayStation game into your computer, there are no prompts that ask you if you want to play the game. The computer does not even know it is a game. Not even ePSXe knows it is a PlayStation game until you configure the CD-ROM settings. The CD-ROM configuration menu is simple and only asks you which disk drive you will be using to play the PlayStation CD game.
Game Pad Settings
-
When you play a video game, you usually use a game controller to control what is happening with the game. If you do not have a computer game pad, you are forced to use the computer keyboard as the primary way to control the PlayStation game when using ePSXe. You can change which keyboard buttons do what by altering the game pad settings in ePSXe. Like the other plugins, the configurations menu for the game pad are simple and straightforward. A picture of a PlayStation controller is on the game pad configurations menu and you can click each button on the image. When you click it, the program asks you what keyboard key you want to use for that button. Here you can do a few different things. You can press a keyboard key or you can plug a USB game controller into your computer and use that instead. Using a controller brings the full video game system experience to your computer.
