A Styrofoam ball can easily be turned into a bunny.

For a simple and fun spring craft, parents and teachers can have children create bunnies out of yarn and Styrofoam balls. This craft can be personalized by each child so that each finished bunny reflects the creator's personality. The finished product is one that the children will treasure and enjoy during the spring months.

  1. Supplies

    • There are several supplies that are needed in order to complete this craft project. Parents and teachers should be prepared with Styrofoam balls on hand, as well as tacky glue, different colors of yarn, felt, scissors, black ball-head straight pins and an extra fine permanent marker. One bunny requires one Styrofoam ball, one color of yarn, one sheet of felt in the color of the child's choosing and two black ball-head straight pins. If there is more than one child participating, there should be multiple pieces of each supply available.

    Setting Up

    • Allow the children to choose the supplies they want for their bunny. Parents or teachers can prepare ahead of time by setting up little bunny kits at each place setting. If a child prefers a different colored yarn or felt sheet, they may trade with the other children that are participating in the craft. Be sure the children are wearing craft-friendly outfits, or a smock for protection from the glue.

    Instructions

    • A small amount of glue should be rubbed all over the Styrofoam ball. The child will then take her piece of yarn and wrap it tightly around the ball. Then, pieces of the bunny's face can be cut out of felt. Consider cutting out a tiny nose, two long ears, and some hands and feet for the bunny. Adhere the pieces of felt with the tacky glue. The black ball-head pins can be pushed into the face for eyes. The fine-tipped marker can add a mouth or whiskers to the bunny.

    Uses

    • Once the bunny craft is complete, children can take them home with them. These tiny bunnies can be used as a decoration around the house --- a perfect addition to other springtime decor. In addition, the bunnies can be used as toys for the children. They will feel a sense of pride and ownership because it is something they created and personalized on their own.
