C4580 Printer Problems
As a combination printer, copier and scanner, the HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One Printer, released in 2008, has several mechanical and electronic components that can potentially malfunction and cause problems. Fortunately, the printer's user guide offers several troubleshooting strategies for correcting such problems.
-
Printer Won't Turn On
-
In some instances, the C4580 may fail to turn on when you press its "On" button. Remedies for this problem include using the power cord that came with the C4580, ensuring that the power cord is securely connected to both the power outlet and the printer and resetting the C4580 by unplugging the power cord, plugging it back in and then pressing the "On" button. An alternative remedy for the printer not turning on is pressing the "On" button more slowly. If you press the button too quickly, the C4580 may not respond.
Printer Won't Print
-
Several underlying issues can prevent the C4580 for printing. Examples include having no paper in the input tray, having no print cartridges installed in the printer or having a jammed print carriage. You can remedy these issues by adding paper to the input tray, installing print cartridges or opening the printer's front access door and removing packing materials or other objects that are blocking the print carriage. Other potential remedies for the C4580 failing to print include ensuring that the printer's USB cable is securely connected, using a USB cable that is no longer than 3 feet and replacing a damaged USB cable.
-
Paper Jam
-
Paper jams occur when one sheet -- or multiple sheets -- of paper become lodged inside of the C4580. To prevent paper jams, the C4580's user guide recommends frequently removing printed papers from the printer's output tray; using paper that has no wrinkles, curls or edges that are bent or torn; only loading the input tray with paper of the same size and type; and adjusting the printer's paper-width guide so that it fits snugly against the paper you have loaded. To clear paper jams, open the C4580's rear door and gently pull the paper out of the printer's rollers.
Print Quality Problems
-
The C4580 can suffer from a variety of print quality problems. These include wrong, inaccurate, faded, dull or bleeding colors; ink not completely filling in text or graphics; horizontal bands, streaks or lines; and blurriness or fuzziness. Remedies for these print quality problems include using only authentic, compatible HP print cartridges; replacing print cartridges; cleaning print cartridge nozzles; ensuring that you have loaded the paper correctly; using a different paper type; and adjusting the C4580's print settings.
