Ohio Filmmaking Grants
Attracting funding and awareness is one of the mainstays of any filmmaker, and receiving grants and awards is one of the ways to build artistic credibility. Several grant making organizations target funding for Ohio residents and others to advance their arts careers, including filmmaking careers. Grant funding for film and video artists and/or their individual projects depend on achievement, subject matter and need.

Ohio Humanities Council

The Ohio Humanities Council funds projects that focus on humanities themes across
many disciplines, such as philosophy, arts theory and criticism, history and language and logistics. Grantees are organizations that operate in Ohio. Projects are favored that forward the scholarly study of humanities in an original way through new media, or that present new information about Ohio during the Civil War and the War of 1812. OHC also funds scholarly humanities multimedia projects that advance access to Ohio cultural history through the Internet, television, podcasts or social media or that strengthen tourism in Ohio with public-private partnerships that increase intellectual access to the state's historic places and culture. OHC offers regular grants from $2,001 to $5,000 and major grants from $5,001 to $20,000.
Ohio Arts Council: Individual Excellence Awards

The Ohio Arts Council offers $5,000 Individual Excellence Awards for artists who have lived in Ohio for one year or more. Students are not eligible. Awards are given to meritorious, accomplished Ohio artists who have a body of work demonstrating achievement and seminal contributions within a particular discipline. Awards are offered in a number of arts categories, including screenwriting, media arts and the visual arts. Applicants are assessed based on the quality of their body of work. Recipients can use awards for the development of the artist, excluding for degree programs. Applications are submitted online.

Ohio Arts Council: Artists with Disabilities Access Program

The Ohio Arts Council offers grants to artists with disabilities who are Ohio residents, to facilitate their artistic growth and development. The grants, up to $500, are meant to help artists with disabilities attend conferences or workshops, participate in mentorship activities, rent art equipment or space, purchase supplies and equipment, do marketing or travel. Applications are online.
Graham Foundation

The Graham Foundation offers Production and Presentation Grants to individuals and organizations that deliver public programs about the role of architecture in the arts culture and society. Production-related expenses are eligible. These projects may include, but are not limited to, films and new media projects, and other programs for the public. Grants for individuals are funded up to $20,000 and for organizations up to $30,000. Although not specifically for Ohioans, most grants are given to people and organizations in the U.S. Applications may be filed online.
