My MSN Has Been Hacked. What Should I Do?
When someone hacks into your MSN account, it feels like a violation. Instead of being upset that someone was in your email, take your account back by changing your password. Though you can't prevent hackers from getting into your account, you can take precautions to make it more difficult for a hacker to break into your account.
-
Change Your MSN Password
-
Log into your MSN account to change your password. Under an options menu you will find a variety of security options that allow you to change your password. Whoever hacked into your account managed to obtain your password. To avoid any other spam messages from your account, you should reset your password. A random mix of letters and numbers will be difficult for future hackers to guess. Resetting your security questions will also help protect your account. Try to reset your password ever month so hacking is less of a risk.
Email Your Contacts
-
It's important to protect your contacts from the material you have been sending them, which may harm their computers. You can let them know in a mass email informing everyone in your address book that your account was hacked. The email should contain an apology for any emails they may have received and a warning not to open any that have attachments or to click links within the messages because they may get hacked as well. Your contacts may wish to change their passwords as a precautionary measure.
-
Change Other Passwords
-
If you store emails containing passwords to other accounts, visit these accounts and change the passwords as well. A hacker may have used the information to hack into other accounts or kept the information for future hacking. Even if your accounts appear to be safe, it's a precautionary measure to change your password.
Report Problem to MSN
-
Contact the MSN security team in regards to your hacking. When hacking goes by unreported, the team cannot try to find a lead to the hacking. From time to time there may be a string of hackings with similar conditions and trails. Reporting your hacking may lead to the hacker being caught.
