Drupal allows users to build and maintain websites via its CMS.

Drupal is an open-source content management system used to design websites. It is used by all different types of websites -- from corporate to government to political sites, as well as personal blogs. Webmasters with administrative capabilities are able to manage the navigation menus, RSS feeds, user comments, page layout and an array of other front-end facets of the site. Training on how to use Drupal can take place in a variety of forms.

  1. Education

    • While managing the front-end of a Drupal CMS doesn't require a bachelor's degree, taking courses in areas such as information systems management, computer science and software engineering may prove to be beneficial. Plus, many companies that hire people to manage websites do, in fact, require at least some college education. Other areas of study for aspiring Drupal experts might include mathematics and Web design.

    Certification

    • Those wishing to be trained specifically in Drupal front-end management can do so through a variety of certification programs -- such as those offered by online courses, workshops and even product vendors, including Drupal. Depending on program type, certification usually consists of little more than lessons, study materials and testing. Many programs typically take anywhere from several hours to one week to complete.

    On the Job

    • Employers who run their company websites via Drupal may sometimes offer on-the-job training. This includes hands-on supervision from managers or more experienced Drupal administrators. In this instance, those aiming to master the CMS generally receive all the training they need while at work. Some companies may even offer training courses that last several weeks, aiming to turn their employees into experts before putting them in the field.

    Drupal Website

    • Occasionally, webmasters can learn all they need to know by logging on to the Drupal website at drupal.org and following the organization's Site Building Guide. Drupal provides instructions for beginning, advanced and intermediate users, as well as basic guidelines and a site-building toolkit. Drupal's site also offers tips on how to best get started using the service, an instillation guide and a variety of themes. Along with all those things, Drupal provides around-the-clock support for administrators who might be learning to manage the front-end of their site.
