The average salary of those working in the television production industry was $72,030 per year, as of May 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This salary figure provided by the bureau was based on the employment of 19,840 radio and television producers, including talent producers and other types of producers within both industries. By comparison, producers and directors across all industries made an average salary of $88,610 per year in 2010.

The BLS indicates that the median salary for those working as producers and directors was $68,440, placing typical TV producers in the upper 50 percent of the pay scale in terms of salaries earned. The bureau also indicates that the middle half of those working in this field earned between $45,470 and $111,720 per year, with the lowest-paid producers making $32,140 or less. The highest paid professionals in this field make more than $166,000 per year.

Salaries for producers in these two states exceed the average salary for producers and directors in other states by a considerable amount. In California, the average salary for TV producers and others involved in the production industry was $126,360 per year in 2010. Those who were employed in New York brought home an average of $111,930. By comparison, those working in Georgia, home of many of the Turner Broadcasting System initiatives, made an average of $71,710 per year. In fact, only those working in California and New York managed to make average salaries above the six-figure mark. In most states, the average salary was less than $90,000 per year.

According to the BLS, the number of jobs in this field should grow by 11 percent over and above the number of jobs reported by the bureau in 2008. This rate of growth is considered average growth when compared to all other professions.
