Yearly maintenance is a necessary task when you own a front-loading washing machine. Performing a number of basic maintenance checks on your washer will ensure that it operates for a long time. Putting off maintenance or failing to perform upkeep on your front-loading washing machine altogether can diminish the washer's performance and cause it break down. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Water Supply Hoses

    • Inspect the washing machine's supply hoses for damage at least once per year. While the supply hoses are generally made of a durable rubber, the material can deteriorate over time. In fact, most hoses that come with a front-loading washing machine have a life span of only five years, according to Repair Clinic. If you detect a bulge in the hose or condensation on the outside, replace the faulty hose immediately to prevent it from bursting.

    Leveling

    • A front-loading washing machines spins at very high rates of speed, which can impact the washer's balance. Consequently, the more you use your washer, the greater the chance that it will become uneven and vibrate from the lack of stability. Place a level on top of the washing machine. If the machine isn't perfectly level on all four sides, adjust its leveling feet until the washer is stabilized. Even if the washer is level, ensure that each of the locking nuts on each leveling foot is tight to prevent the feet from changing position and causing the front-loader to become unbalanced in the future.

    Door Gasket and Seal

    • A front-loading washing machine is susceptible to collecting moisture in the door folds. Wipe the seal and gasket after each wash load to prevent mold growth, and thoroughly clean these components with a disinfectant, such as bleach or vinegar, to eliminate bacteria and germs in the folds every year to keep your washer fresh and clean.

    Lint Tray

    • If your front-loading washing machine has a lint tray, empty it every year, and possibly more often, depending on use. Refer to your front-load washing machine's user guide for information about cleaning the lint tray on your specific washer model. The lint tray is usually located in the center console of the agitator. Remove the console and empty it. If the lint tray isn't in the agitator's center console, look for it on top or front of the washer. Pull the tray all of the way out of its slot and rinse the tray with warm water before reinserting it back in the slot.
