Paint bedrooms in a log home using decorative painting techniques.

Log homes may be ones that you live in or where you go to relax on a weekend getaway. No matter how often you're in your home, painting the bedrooms gives them a warm and welcoming feel whenever you walk in. Match your bedroom walls with the rustic look and feel of the exterior of your log home by choosing the right colors and painting techniques. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Neutral Colors

    • Paint your log cabin's bedroom in a light neutral color, which blends well with all kinds of wood. White especially brightens up a bedroom that would otherwise look dark and gloomy. Likewise, painting a bedroom white always makes it look larger. This makes it a perfect color choice for smaller rooms. Other neutral paint colors for your walls are off white, beige and cream.

    Stenciling

    • Use stencils to paint designs on bedroom walls that are reminiscent of nature. Use the stencils to create an overall pattern on your walls or to create a border. Paint the walls in a color of your choice, preferably colors from the outdoors, such as forest green, brown or blue. Paint images of pine trees, pine cones, moose, bears, fish, ducks and canoes, using stencils when the paint has completely dried. A combination of these images may also be painted on your walls.

    Dry Brushing

    • Add more texture to a log home's bedroom walls by using the dry-brushing technique. Dry brushing not only adds texture, but brings out any imperfections on the walls for a rustic feel look and feel. Start by painting the walls with a base coat in a color of your choice and allow it to dry. Dip a paintbrush in a color close to the base color. Brush strokes of about 8 to 12 inches long on top of the base coat in random patterns.

    Distressed Paint

    • Continue with the rustic look and feel of a log home by giving your walls a distressed look. The best part about distressed painting, also known as antiquing, is that you can create the look over a flat or rough surface, such as over painted logs of wood. Simply paint your walls in a flat-finish paint in a color of your choice, and use 100-grit sand paper to scrub away some of the paint in areas of your choice.
