Falken Tire History

Falken Tire considers itself a maverick. The company maintains an in-house advertising department, as well as its own motor sports teams. The teams compete in American Le Mans Series, Professional Drifting and American Motorcyclist Association Supercross events. Falken makes tires in a number of categories, including performance, luxury sport, all-season, all-terrain, winter and premium touring.

  1. Origins of Falken Tire

    • Falken Tire was founded in Japan, in 1983. It is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries and began as the flagship high-performance radial tire brand under the umbrella of Ohtsu Tire and Rubber. Falken is now a stand-alone tire brand.

    Falken Tire in the U.S.

    • Falken Tire began to export its tires internationally in 1985. In 1990, the Falken Tire Corporation was founded in the U.S. to strengthen the company's position in the North American market. The American company is based in Fontana, California, which also serves as the Falken West Coast distribution center. Other distribution centers are located in Tennessee, New Jersey and Texas.

    Falken Race Teams

    • Falken sponsors several race teams to aid in its product development and to increase exposure for the brand. The company began racing in the ALMS in 2008; it began competing in Drift Racing in 2003; and it entered the AMA Supercross racing in 2011 by sponsoring Monster Energy AMA Supercross racer Ryan Villopoto.

    Falken Tire Product Line

    • The focus of Falken Tire is on ultra high-performance products, but they offer an ever-growing line of tires for passenger vehicles. Falken manufacturers tires for cars, light trucks, SUVs, trucks, buses and for competitive track use.
