Plumbing

A plumber can do your plumbing, especially if you do not have experience. Materials required to install the plumbing yourself include a bathroom shower valve, a shower base and drain, and a bathroom shower faucet.
Fixtures
-
You can remodel a shower to update a bathroom or even to allow handicapped use. To remodel a shower, you can include grab bars, shower doors and shower enclosures. On average, you can expect to pay from $70 to more than $100 per item, as of 2011.

Shower
-
Installing the shower itself requires several materials, including a shower base, framework for the shower and tile, if tiling the floor or wall of the shower. To install these items, you also need a trowel, grout, hammer, chisel, caulk, screws or nails and tile adhesive.
Walls
-
The walls of a shower are more complex than just tile. Behind that tile lies a layer of drywall, which is typically damaged when removing the old shower. You can expect to purchase new sheets of drywall and the tools to install it. Subflooring exists underneath the shower base. This subflooring provides support for the shower base and pipes. After replacing the subfloor and drywall, you then have the task of retiling the walls, which can cost more than $10 per square foot, depending on the type of tile you use.
