It is one of the six entries of the DirecTV HD receiver brand; the H24 belongs to the company's lowest-end receiver brand apart from the standard-definition DirecTV Receiver.

With access to over 265 channels, the DirecTV H24 receiver provides a display quality of up to 1,920-by-1,080 pixels in interlaced or progressive-scan resolution, and it has an internal RF antenna for local channels. Other features and functions include Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, parental control, wall-mountable and multi-room viewing capability, and caller ID information using local phone company service.

Each DirecTV H24 receiver has a High Definition Multimedia Interface. This is the standard connector for hooking up HD-compatible devices such as an HDTV, and it is responsible for transmitting digital audio/video content. Another A/V output is the composite A/V RCA-style connectors, which consist of a yellow connector for video, and one red and one white connector for stereo audio. Other external interfaces of the H24 include component video connectors, optical audio and coaxial digital audio outputs, and a USB port and Ethernet jack for data.
