Social Service Grants

Business owners who provide social services can choose from many grants to support their businesses. Applicants should expect to describe how their business helps the community or solves a social problem. One grant for the social services industry is the Verizon Domestic Violence Entrepreneurship Grant Program. It's administered by Verizon and the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. It requires applicants to submit a business plan for a new business that helps domestic violence survivors. The grants range from $500 to $2,500 and can be used for typical expenses like office equipment and office space.
Agricultural Grants

Business owners who manage an agricultural company can take advantage of New York's agricultural grants. The goal of these grants is to support the New York food industry. For example, the state agricultural department and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) jointly established the Specialty Crop Industry Grant program. There are no stated grant amounts, but applicants must grow specific crops.

Training Grants

Training grants improve employee work skills for companies in New York. Each grant is different but companies generally have to have a certain of number of employees and explain their training methods. One grant called the Skills Training and Education Program (STEP) gives New York businesses up to $50,000 to spend on worker training every year. One grant, the Industrial Effectiveness Program, gives grants of up to $50,000 each to manufacturers with less than 500 employees. Applicants must use grants to pay for private consultants who make recommendations on improving their business operations.
