Hairstyles You Can Create With Clippers

Hairstyles You Can Create With Clippers thumbnail
Cutting your hair at home with standard clippers can be a money saver.

Instead of going to a barbershop every few weeks and shelling out big bucks on a haircut, you can buy the tools to create your own hairstyles at home. Clippers are inexpensive tools available at drugstores. When you buy, select a set with different clipper guards; you will need them to vary the length of hair sections, depending on the styles you and your family members prefer. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Short Back/Sides

    • The short back/sides cut is the classic clippers cut. To perform this style, cut the sides and back of the hair short, while leaving the hair on top at an adequate length for styling. Use clippers to neatly cut the top hair. Use the 8 or 10 attachment on top, as opposed to the zero, 1 or 2 guards you would use for a closer cut.

    Buzz Cut

    • To create a buzz cut, trim the hair short all over the scalp to a uniform length, using the clippers. You can either use a short attachment grader, or eliminate the attachments altogether and use the blade. There are two variations of this hairstyle: the crew cut and the induction cut. In a crew cut, you leave the hair on top and in the front a little longer. In the induction cut, so named because it's the one stylists use to prepare newly-inducted soldiers for the armed forces, you cut the hair nearly bald, leaving only stubble, using merely the blade, or the lowest level guard possible.

    Caesar Style

    • The Caesar hairstyle involves clipper-cutting your hair to a uniform length of about an inch. You then apply a stronger guard attachment to the edge of the forehead, leaving the hair longer there. This enables you to comb it downward, producing short, straight-edged bangs. Lengths of Caesar cuts differ depending on the wearer's hair density. If your hair is dense, you may prefer a shorter cut.

    Fade

    • Fades enjoyed popularity among black men during the 1980s. It involves the tapering of the hair on the sides and in the back of the head to the shortest length possible, while leaving the hair on top thick, yet neatly shaped. To style your hair in this manner, start with a 5 blade. Start on the sides, then go straight upward with the clippers. When you reach the place where you used the 5 guard, move the clippers in an outward direction. As you get lower on the hair, lower your guard level to the next lowest one until you get to the bottom. Scoop upward between levels. If you leave lines between sections, go back upward, gradually increasing your guard as you ascend. Check for unblended levels with the thinning shears.

    Bald Cut

    • If you want to cut your hair bald, go around your scalp with a tool known as the outliner trimmer, a type of clippers. Use a no-guard. Feel for any stubble you may have over looked. Brush away any leftover hair after you're done. It's important to use scalp moisturizer if your scalp is prone to flaky dryness as this could appear as dandruff.
