Can You Change the UTorrent Share Ratio?
Your share ratio weighs how much data you've downloaded on uTorrent versus how much you've uploaded -- for instance, a share ratio of 1.0 means you've shared exactly as much as you've downloaded, while 0.50 indicates that you've shared half as much data as you've downloaded. There's a simple way to increase your share ratio, and you can use third-party programs that fake ratios.

Naturally
-
The simplest way to increase your ratio on uTorrent is to share files for as long as possible, even after the download is complete. You can still copy and access files while they're being seeded, or shared, to other users who are downloading the same file. Before your download is complete, your torrent program will share the parts of the file you do have with other users -- so during the download your share ratio increases as well.
Artificially
-
Third-party programs exist to fake-out trackers and display a greater share ratio than you actually have. Programs like Torrent Ratio Keeper (torrentratiokeeper.com) and BitTorrent Booster (bitorrentbooster.com) let users manually set their own share ratios, which tricks trackers into believing you have shared more of your downloaded files than you actually have. These programs are legal, but can be considered unethical.

Benefits of High Share Ratios
-
Many torrent tracking websites check your share ratio and may throttle speeds and limit your access to torrents if they find your ratio lacking; such sites as Demonoid even keep track of your ratio on your user page. The flip side of this is that users with a higher ratio often get better speeds on their downloads. Because torrents are dependent on being seeded by users who already have the files, it's generally considered good etiquette to share downloaded files for as long as you can.
Checking Your Ratio in uTorrent
-
Go to "Help" > "Show Statistics" in uTorrent to view your total share ratio, as well as your ratio for the day. The statistics pop-up window will display the total amount you've downloaded, what you've uploaded and your ratio. You'll also see how many torrents you've downloaded and how long you've run uTorrent over time. If you're currently downloading files, you'll also be told how many connections you have running.
