Many children love to make animals out of different craft materials.

Using felt to create craft projects is a very easy and inexpensive way to have fun with the family. Felt, which comes in a variety of different colors, and chicken patterns can be purchased at any craft and hobby store to make a chicken-themed creation.

  1. A Jar Chicken

    • Using an empty baby food jar, measure a piece of yellow felt to fit around the outside and bottom of the jar. Paint the outside of the lid -- including the sides -- with yellow paint and allow to dry completely. With either a tacky glue or a glue gun, attach the felt to the jar. Sit the jar on its lid and glue yellow feathers to both sides of the jar. Glue or paint two eyes and a beak onto the yellow felt. For the top of the jar, either glue a piece of red felt for the chicken's comb or simply attach some feathers.

    A Chicken Mask

    • Making a chicken mask is very easy for children of all ages. Using a pattern, cut out the shape of a chicken face. With a felt marker, trace over each of the different shapes on the face -- such as a triangle for the nose and two circles for the eyes. Be creative and let each of the shapes be a different color of felt. Glue each felt piece to the pattern and allow to dry completely. Attach a tongue depressor to the bottom of the mask to use as a handle.

    A Chicken Puppet

    • To create a chicken puppet, use a small lunch sack for the body portion. Cut different shapes and sizes of felt using a variety of different colors. Glue the shapes onto the chicken, providing it with eyes and a beak. Make sure to add some feathers to your puppet to give it more of a chicken look. Once everything has dried completely on the chicken puppet, slip your hand inside of the bag and make your chicken puppet work.

    A Triangle Chicken

    • Using a large triangle pattern, place it on a piece of yellow felt and cut around it. Glue a few yellow feathers to the top of the triangle and along each of the sides. Using different colored felt, cut out a shapes for the beak and eyes and glue them onto the triangle. You may add glitter or anything else you may have to decorate the chicken and add your own style. Cut two small pieces of wire and poke each one of them through the bottom of the felt to resemble legs. Fold a small portion of the wire in an "L" shape to form a small foot.
