Problems With Error Messages on Getting Your Mail in AOL
Error messages can occur in AOL WebMail for a variety of reasons. Fortunately, most of these errors are minor and easy to fix. A few simple tips can show you how to deal with the most common error messages users come up against when trying to receive their AOL mail.
-
Mailbox Full
-
Your AOL mailbox can hold up to 1,000 new messages. It can also store 4,000 old messages per AOL screen name and 4,000 messages that you have sent. If you exceed the storage in any of these categories, you will get a message saying "Mailbox is full." When you receive this message, you will not be able to store or receive new emails until you delete old ones. To solve this problem, you can read or delete emails or you can save the email to an online saved "On AOL folder" if you are using AOL 9.0 or higher.
Message Exceeds Maximum Size
-
AOL has a size limit for anything that can be sent or received through its email. This limit is 25 MB, which means that you will not be able to send or receive any emails larger than 25 MB. This limitation cannot be altered. If you get an error message saying "Message exceeds maximum fixed size," you will have to alert the sender and ask them if they can change the email to fit the 25 MB allowance.

Mail is Not Available
-
The error message "Mail is not available at this time," "Mail is not available," or "Email is temporarily unavailable" can be caused by many different system-generated errors including maintenance, systems issues or network traffic. The most simple solution is to wait a few minutes and then try to access your email again. If this doesn't work, you can try clearing the cookies, cache and history on your browser or switching to AOL WebMail Basic version, which typically loads easier.
Unknown User
-
An "Unknown User" or "Mailbox Not Found" error message will occur when the email address or screen name with which you try to sign in no longer exists. Most often this is due to a spelling error in the username section of the email or screen name.
