What Happens After a WordPress Blog Is Deleted? thumbnail
Deleting a WordPress blog is not reversible.

Deleting a WordPress blog removes it and its contents permanently from the WordPress site. If your blog has been hosted on your own Web hosting, then deleting the blog will remove all of the "wp" folders and their contents. To delete a WordPress blog, go to Tools on the Dashboard and click "Delete Site."

  1. Blog Posts Removed

    • The most important aspect of deleting a WordPress blog is the removal of the blog posts. After a WordPress blog is deleted, whether it is hosted through WordPress or hosted on your own Web hosting, all of the blog posts connected with that blog are deleted. The text is deleted and is not available for reading, linking or references. If the blog was backed up, then those text files remain. But if the blog was not backed up, then its entire post contents are removed when deleted.

    WordPress Name Removed

    • When you host a blog through WordPress, you receive a blog name that looks like http://blogname.wordpress.com. After the WordPress blog is deleted, the blogname is also removed permanently. You cannot transfer the name to a new blog and the name is not available for other computer users to use. It is permanently removed from WordPress. If you have hosted your blog using your own domain name, then the domain name is available until that is also deleted. You own the domain name for as long as you are still using it and paying for it.

    Media And Images Removed

    • The media items, such as videos, and any images used, no matter what format, are also removed from the WordPress website once you delete your http://blogname.wordpress.com blog. These items are not available for other users to link to. The images are also deleted from search engines. If you remove the "wp" folders and delete your WordPress blog from your web hosting, then the images and media contained in those folders are also deleted.

    Widget Information Removed

    • The widgets displayed along WordPress blog sidebars are also removed. The basic widget coding is included in every WordPress blog and every WordPress installation from WordPress.org. However, your unique blog content is removed from the widgets and sidebars when the WordPress blog is deleted. This information is not retrievable and the deletion is not reversible. This information is also deleted if you delete your WordPress blog through your Web hosting.
