The Embroidery Placement Guide for T-Shirts

Embroidered company logos and other designs have traditionally been placed on garments such as polos and T-shirts on the left chest of the shirt, above the seamed sleeve cuff and at the back of the neck. An embroidery placement guide helps you determine how and where on the shirt the embroidery should be stitched.

  1. Children's T-Shirts

    • Place embroidery on boy's and girl's T-shirts sizes 4 to 6, with no pocket on the left chest, 3 1/2 inches to 4 1/2 inches down from the left shoulder seam of the shirt. Center the design between the placket (center point of the neck opening) and side seam or 1 1/4 inch to 2 inches to the right of the neck opening of the shirt. Place embroidery on children's T-shirts with a left pocket 1/4 inch above the pocket, or on the pocket itself.

    Adult T-shirts

    • Place embroidery on men's and women's T-shirts with no front pocket on the left chest 5 inches to 7 inches for women's garments or 7 inches to 9 inches down for men's garments from the left shoulder seam. Center the embroidery between the placket and the side seam, or 3 inches to 4 inches from the right of the front center-point of the neck opening of the shirt. Position embroidery on adult T-shirts with a left front pocket 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch above the pocket, and center it between the left and right edges of the pocket. The embroidery can also be centered on the pocket itself.

    Sleeve Embroidery

    • Position T-shirt cuff embroidery on the center line of the left sleeve, 1 inch above the top stitching of the hem. If you embroider the right sleeve, the letters or logo needs to read from back to front instead of front to back.

    Collar Embroidery

    • Collar, or yoke, embroidery is located on the back of the T-shirt beneath the center point of the collar. Position yoke embroidery 2 inches to 3 inches down from the collar seam.
