Does Facebook Send Notifications for Likes?
By default, Facebook sends you an email notification when a friend Likes one of your posts. If you post often or have many friends who use Facebook, these emails can quickly become more nuisance than help, especially if you check your Facebook account frequently. Fortunately, you can change the notification settings so that they work better for you.
-
What Warrants Notification
-
If the default settings are left unchanged, Facebook sends email notifications for Likes on all of your posts. This includes not only status updates, but photos, notes, links and anything else with a Like button.
Accessing Notification Settings
-
To access your account's notification settings, log in to Facebook as usual, then click the Account button and select "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu. Click "Notifications" in the sidebar on the left side of the screen.
-
Adjusting Notification Settings
-
The Notifications screen displays all of the Facebook tools that send email notifications upon use. Click the Edit button next to each entry to change your notification options, which range from an overall ban on notification about all activity on Facebook to an email alert every time anyone sends you a message, adds you as a friend, posts on your wall or tags you in a photo, among a host of other possible actions.
Stopping Like Notifications
-
To have Facebook start or stop sending notifications of Likes, click the "Edit" link next to the "Facebook" entry on the "All Notifications" list. The entry "Likes your post" is at the bottom of this list. Put a check mark in this box if you prefer to receive email notifications whenever someone Likes a post you've made. Keep the box blank if you do not want to receive the emails.
