Homemade School Spirit Items

Students involved in school government and activities have school spirit.

Students who are passionate about their school create school spirit, which often involves the support of a school's athletic team. Cheerleaders help raise school spirit by cheering at school athletic games; student government members create school spirit by organizing school events and raising other students' interest in school activities. Making school spirit items to sell or distribute among your student body helps show school spirit and raise money for your school.

  1. Baked Goods

    • Schools often require additional money to fund student needs such as field trips, athletic equipment and art supplies. To raise those funds, contact or participate in your student government and student clubs to run bake sales --- a common way to show your school spirit and help fellow students. Decorate homemade cupcakes in a school's colors or with the image of the school's mascot. Homemade cookies and pies are a sure hit, as well.

    Bracelets

    • Show off your school spirit by wearing items with your school's colors. Braid bracelets from hemp cord, thread or yarn in your school's colors; these gender-neutral bracelets are acceptable for boys and girls. Distribute the homemade hand-woven bracelets, which are cheap to make, to students for free to drum up spirit. Selling woven bracelets also earns money at school fairs and fundraising events.

    Headbands

    • Make headbands with your school or team's name written on them to show off your school spirit when worn at school events and games. Cut strips of fabric about 2 inches wide and 36 inches long. Use white fabric to make writing more visible, or use team colors. Write your school's name or motivational phrases on your headbands with fabric markers.

    T-shirts

    • Create and wear your own school T-shirts. Blank T-shirts in white or in your school colors are available at craft and fabric stores. Draw designs on white T-shirts to make them pop. Use fabric markers, writable puffy paint and fabric crayons to draw on blank T-shirts. Call attention to your school's name, the name of your team or motivational phrases by writing them on your T-shirt.
