Listening to Voicemail in Skype

Skype voicemail is a free feature of Skype that prevents you from missing calls when you are not signed in to Skype. Incoming callers can leave you a voice message that you can check later. Skype has an option to send you an email when you receive a voicemail, so you can be notified of a voicemail on your phone or wherever you access your email.

  1. Enabling Voicemail

    • Go to Skype's homepage on your browser. In the upper right corner click "Account" and then sign in to your account. You are now logged in to a version of Skype that lets you manage your account, but does not have the calling features of the downloaded version of Skype. Click the "Voicemail" icon. Next to "Status" click "Enable" so that it is highlighted green.

    Voicemail Email Alert

    • Under "Voicemail Alert Options" check the box next to "Send an email alert to (your email address) when I receive a voicemail." If you do not want an alert sent to the specified email address, click "Change your email address."

    Set Up Voicemail Greeting

    • Click "Skype" on the top toolbar, and then select "Preferences." Click the "Call" tab, and then click "Set up Voicemail." Click the red Record button to start recording the greeting using your computer's microphone. Click the Play button to listen to your greeting. Press "Done" when you are finished.

    Listen To Voicemail

    • Sign in to your Skype account. Under "Recent" in the left column click on the name of the contact who left you a voicemail. The voicemail recording will appear in the main message window. Press the Play button to listen to the voicemail.
