What Is Road Runner PowerBoost?

PowerBoost is a feature available on Road Runner Internet from Time Warner Cable. It does just what the name implies, giving you a boost of Internet speed when you need it to download files. It is available with all Road Runner Standard, Turbo and Extreme Internet subscriptions.

  1. Road Runner Internet

    • Road Runner Internet is an Internet service that runs on Time Warner Cable's fiber-optic network. Instead of running off of a phone line such as dial-up and DSL services, it runs off of a coaxial cable network for faster speeds. This service is available individually or can be bundled with television and phone services also available from Time Warner.

    PowerBoost

    • PowerBoost is a feature that gives you a burst of Internet speed to aid when downloading large files. The system will automatically detect the size of the file you are downloading and, if there is speed available on the network, temporarily boost the download speed for the first few seconds of the download. There is no way to turn PowerBoost on or off and it may not always happen if the network is under a lot of strain.

    Additional Information

    • There is no limit to the number of PowerBoosts you can receive; it is all dependent on the available bandwidth on the network. After you have been given a PowerBoost, download speeds will return to normal but the PowerBoost should reduce the total time it takes to download the file. If your PowerBoost is not working properly, reset your modem by unplugging the power cord for 60 seconds and plugging it back in.

    Compatible Modems

    • Power Boost is only compatible with DOCSIS 1.1 or higher modems. If you have an older modem but subscribe to a PowerBoost compatible Internet service, you can upgrade your modem by contacting your local Time Warner Cable office. Your modem will be replace free of charge with a newer model.
