Tips on Protecting Your Laptop From Damage
A laptop computer is useful for its portability, but because you may carry it around with you, it's also at a greater risk of getting damaged than a stationary desktop model. Whether you use a laptop for business or for school, the last thing you want is to drop it or have an otherwise unforeseen problem arise. Fortunately, there are many ways of protecting it.
-
Carrying Bag
-
One of the most important safety precautions for your laptop is to always carry it in a bag designed specifically for the purpose. While carrying it in your backpack is better than nothing, you should invest in a laptop bag, which includes a snug pocket that will cradle the computer. Buy a bag with ample padding and a secure strap.
Eating
-
Though you may be tempted to eat meals while working on your computer, an accidental spill can cause severe damage to the device. When meal time comes, set your laptop aside and avoid eating with the computer open. Crumbs that fall into the laptop's keyboard may cause damage, while spilling a liquid could severely harm the machine.

Stand
-
A laptop computer will occasionally overheat when someone uses it for an extended period of time and its vents are covered. This can occur if you use your laptop while it's sitting on your lap, as your legs or a blanket may prevent its cooling mechanisms. Buy a laptop stand, which is a small riser that helps keep the laptop cool.
Extreme Temperatures
-
Like other electronic devices, a laptop computer isn't ideal for keeping in an area of extreme temperatures. Though the recommended temperature range for every laptop ranges, avoid leaving it in a vehicle during extended periods of extreme hot or cold. Cold temperatures can slow the machine and make it unusable, while hot temperatures can fry its internal components.
