Use the Vacuum Cleaner
-
During winter, the queen wasp hibernates in a protected area, which can be the inside an insulated wall cavity. When the weather warms up, the wasp may emerge inside the house by accident. Insects are drawn to light, so the wasp may be drawn to the window. Turn on the vacuum cleaner and suck up the wasp. The vacuum cleaner instantly kills the wasp. Tie up the vacuum cleaner bag and discard it outdoors.
Wasp and Hornet Spray
-
Commercial wasp and hornet spray can be used to spray exposed wasp nests. Wait until night, because this is when wasps are less active, and they mostly reside in the nest. Put on a protective wasp suit and arm yourself with wasp and hornet spray. Stand no more than 20 feet away. Look for the entrance to the nest and spray into the opening. Check the nest for activity the next day, and repeat the treatment if needed. Once all wasps are killed, use a broomstick to knock the nest off the tree and discard it in a sealed plastic bag.

Dish or Laundry Soap
-
Different kinds of soaps, including dish or laundry soap, can be used to get rid of wasps nesting underground. Add a piece of soap to water and heat it on the stove. Place the soap mixture in a bottle and wait until nighttime. Put on a wasp suit for protection. Look for the opening to the underground wasp nest and pour the mixture into the nest. The soap instantly kills the wasps. Wait 24 hours before observing the nest for activity. If living wasps are present, repeat the treatment. If all wasps appear to be dead, cover the nest with soil.
Plant Wormwood
-
Just like basil repels mosquitoes and flies, wormwood repels wasps. If wasps frequent your garden, plant a border of wormwood plants around it, to keep wasps at bay. If you visit an area where you may encounter wasps, wear a sprig of a wormwood plant in your hair, or pin it on your shirt. This natural wasp repellent keeps wasps away from you.
