A Duplex Lever Error on a Brother Printer MFC-8840DN
The Brother MFC-8840DN multifunction printer offers many useful features, including the ability to use duplex printing whenever you need to. If you plan to use the duplex printing feature, you need to learn how to use the lever mechanism that makes double-sided printing possible.
-
Duplex Printing
-
Duplex printing is simply printing on both sides of a piece of paper. That allows the operator to save paper and cut costs. The duplex feature can be enabled when the MFC-8840DN multifunction device is operating as a printer and when it is being used as a copier as well.
Paper Size
-
Before you can use the duplex functions of the Brother MFC-8840DN, you must first load the paper tray with paper of the appropriate size, then set the duplex lever to match that paper size. Access the duplex lever through the back of the device by opening the back door. Find the duplex handle, then slide it in place so that it matches the paper size you have loaded in the tray.

DX Lever Error
-
The Brother MFC-8840DN uses a control panel to display error messages. If you see an error reading "DX Lever Error," that is an indication that the duplex lever is not properly set for the paper size you are using. To resolve the error, simply open the back of the MFC-8840DN and adjust the duplex lever to match the paper size in the tray you are trying to print from.
Turn Off Duplex
-
After you have finished with your double-sided printing, you need to set the duplex lever back to single-sided printing. The MFC-8840DN uses the lever system to tell the printer whether to use the duplex mode. That means you must physically open the printer and reset the duplex lever each time you are finished with a double-sided printing project.
