Gift for a Coworker Who Was Laid Off
In a bad economic climate, many companies and businesses are forced to lay off employees. When a coworker with whom you are friendly gets laid off, consider giving him a gift to help soften the blow and let him know that you sympathize with his situation. Choose an appropriate gift that will help him get through the tough times ahead.
-
Gift Basket
-
Put together a gift basket for the coworker who has been laid off. Going through a time like this can be quite stressful, so consider a relaxing basket filled with bubble bath, massage oil, aromatherapy candles and other items. Another option is a gift basket filled with all of the items needed to create a meal. Not only will this help him save money, it shows that you care.
Practical Item
-
Losing your job means that you likely need to find another one. Consider choosing a book about searching for a job in a specific industry, or in general. You could also offer to help out with the coworker's resume, cover letter and other things she might need to put together in order to find a new position.

Gift Cards
-
Give the former coworker a card that tells him how you feel about his situation and place a gift card inside it. Some people might not want to accept monetary gifts. Choose a gift card to a local grocery store or department store. If the holidays are approaching, select a gift card to a local toy store so that the person can purchase gifts for his children.
Liquor
-
Choose a bottle of vodka, Scotch, wine or the person's favorite alcoholic drink. This is a gift best suited for a coworker with whom you regularly had after-work drinks with. Avoid buing this gift for someone you don't know well, or for someone who has had a drinking problem in the past.
