Guide to Waterfiends
In the massive multiplayer online game "Runescape," Waterfiends are just one of many enemies that players can battle. They appear in a few different locations around the game world. Waterfiends are particularly noted for their crimson charm drop rate. When a player battles a Waterfiend, she has a relatively high chance of gaining an item known as a crimson charm. Players seek Waterfiends out specifically to gain these items.

Basics
-
A monster with a strong defense, Waterfiends are nonetheless vulnerable to crush attacks, and players should opt for weapons that have the crush feature when fighting these creatures. Waterfiends have a maximum hit characteristic of 119 -- meaning that the most damage a Waterfiend can deal with one attack is 119 -- and 1280 life points.
Yields
-
Players battling Waterfiends will find that these enemies usually drop charms, a high percentage of which will be crimson charms. Persistently battling Waterfiends thus allows players to gain crimson charms relatively quickly. You can gain more crimson charms in certain locations in which Waterfiends appear. For example, in the Ancient Cavern area, players can obtain roughly 130 crimson charms per hour, or up to 200 in the Chaos Tunnels area.

Location
-
Waterfiends appear in three areas of the "Runescape" game world. One place where players will encounter them is the Ancient Cavern, accessible after the player finishes Barbarian Training. Players can enter the Ancient Cavern either via a Fairy Ring Teleport, or by heading south of the Barbarian Outpost area and finding the whirlpool that serves as the Cavern's main entrance. Players can then encounter Waterfiends to the north of the Fairy Ring as well as to the west of the staircase near the whirlpool. Players can also find Waterfiends in the northwestern part of the Chaos Tunnels, as well as in the Frozen Fortress. Waterfiend battles in the Chaos Tunnels are multicombat -- meaning that players and monsters can be attacked by more than one opponent at a time -- and thus tougher than usual, while Waterfiends in the Frozen Fortress drop less charms but release two when they do drop them.
Combat Tactics
-
An effective tactic against Waterfiends is to engage them in melee, since this option is relatively quick compared to other methods. Players should enable magic protection and use super attack and super strength potions before battle. Players can also fight Waterfiends via ranged weapons. This is slower than the melee method, but does involve the player's character taking less damage, and having better access to charm drops.
Waterfiend Attacks
-
Waterfiends attack in two different ways. Their ranged attack has the highest chance of scoring a hit out of their two attacks, so a solid choice for players is to use a Protect from Ranged prayer before the battle to avoid the worst of this. The Waterfiend's second attack is magic-based. You can protect your character by equipping magic defense-based armor like the Dragonhide.
