Verizon has issued a software release for the Novatel-manufactured USB760. Installing the release lets you take advantage of modem improvements, including the ability to display the arrival time of received SMS messages, and it adds Windows 7 support. One issue apparent in earlier releases was that the device would power down randomly; this release fixes that issue.
External Antenna Option

Purchase the external antenna if you would like to increase range in marginal areas. The device has a hidden external antenna connector on its side. Look for the rubber protector, and pry it off with your fingernail. Don't lose the protector; you need to use it to keep dust out when you don't have the antenna attached.

MicroSD Memory Card

Use the USB760 to store and access a microSD card. The USB modem has a hot-swappable slot that accepts memory cards. Slide a card in to turn the modem into a flash memory stick, as well as a modem --- a good trick to know about if you are concerned about losing memory cards. The microSD format is the same format used in many smart phones. Look for the slot on the right side of the device under the Verizon logo.
Lanyard Accessory

Attach the lanyard if you are concerned about losing the modem. Increasing miniaturization makes these types of devices easy to lose. The modem should have shipped with a lanyard; look in the box. Locate the hook on the side of the device, pinch the looped thread and feed it through. Do not wear the modem when operating machinery. It comes with an emergency release clip, but you can also cut through the material if necessary.
